A tale of two winter storms: North and South Jersey brace for weekend snow and ice, here's what to expect

TRENTON, N.J. — A winter storm is set to impact New Jersey this weekend, bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain, with conditions varying between North and South Jersey.

In North Jersey, temperatures will fall to around 33 degrees Friday evening, with wind chills making it feel colder. Snow is expected to begin Saturday afternoon, intensifying overnight with a mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Accumulations could reach three to five inches before tapering off Sunday morning.

In South Jersey, the storm will bring a mix of snow, sleet, and rain, with lighter snowfall totals. Snow is expected Saturday afternoon but will transition to freezing rain and sleet by the evening before changing to rain overnight. Ice accumulation is possible, but snowfall totals will likely stay between one and two inches.

Sunday will see lingering precipitation, with North Jersey experiencing some morning snow and South Jersey dealing with early rain before conditions improve.

Temperatures will remain in the 30s and 40s across the state, with clearing skies by the evening.

Officials are warning residents to prepare for hazardous road conditions, particularly in areas expecting significant snowfall and ice accumulation.
