
CHERRY HILL, NJ — K-9 Mai, a decorated member of the Cherry Hill Police Department, is retiring at the end of the year following 10 years of dedicated service alongside her handler, Officer Anthony Amato.
Mai, the 20th canine to serve Cherry Hill Township, graduated from the New Jersey Police K-9 Association in 2015 with dual certifications in basic patrol and narcotics detection. Over her career, she played a pivotal role in law enforcement operations, including the seizure of illegal narcotics, locating missing persons, and apprehending wanted individuals.
In addition to her enforcement duties, Mai made a significant impact on the community through public demonstrations at Cherry Hill schools, summer camps, religious institutions, and community events. She participated in every Junior Police Academy and National Night Out event since 2015, becoming a familiar and beloved presence in the township.
“K-9 Mai has been an invaluable part of our department and the community,” the Cherry Hill Police Department wrote in a statement.
The department invites residents to join in thanking Mai for her honorable service and wishing her a happy retirement. She leaves behind a legacy of courage and community connection.
