Senator O’Scanlon Introduces Bill S1683 to Allow Armed Officers in New Jersey Schools TRENTON, NJ – Senator Declan J. O’Scanlon, Jr. of District 13 (Monmouth) has pre-filed Bill S1683 for introduction in the 2024 legislative session, aimed at enhancing security in public schools. The bill proposes that school districts may not prohibit active or retired law enforcement officers, including safe schools resource officers or Class Three special law enforcement officers, or registered security officers from carrying firearms in school buildings or on school grounds if authorized under State law. The legislation is a response to communities seeking increased security measures
